Key dates for 2021 Local Government Elections

The NSW Government postponed the September 2020 local government elections for a total of 15 months to Saturday 4th December 2021. 
Information about the postponement can be found on the NSW Office of Local Government website.
The NSW Electoral Commissioner published Bulletins to share information about the elections and provide political participants with key information.

Postal votes

Postal vote applications commence approximately 6 weeks before the election date. Find more info at the NSW Electoral Commission.

Electronic Voting (iVote)

Electronic voting will be available for the 4th December Local Government elections using the iVote system. Before you apply for iVote, you need to make sure that you meet any one or more of the eligibility criteria listed here on the NSW EC website.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will need to apply online or over the phone to use iVote. When applying, you will be asked to create a password. An iVote number will be sent to you via SMS or email. This link on the EC website provides a step by step summary of the iVote process, while this link provides details on how to register your voting preferences for both Councillor and Mayoral ballots.

Applications for using iVote in the 2021 Local Government elections open on 22 November 2021.

Non-resident ratepayers voting info
